Finished the kona throwdown out of the money. No boats weighed a fish so Andy got his entry back. ( that’s a good tournament policy ). Had a great time and we had our chances, 3 hours left on day three had one in that 600-650 range eat the @koyalures808 bullet. Everything went a little too smooth, had her on for awhile. We all did everything right, tackle was on point, angler was kicking ass and fish was coming up from the deep to give us an early shot, but just as the gaff men got ready mysteriously she came unhooked & we watched big money swim away but that’s the game. Lots of Friggin kona Houdini marlin this week. Thanks Andy for putting the chips on the table we will get her next time bud. Day 2 of the kona throwdown we Went 1 for 5 on small blues. Mostly Rats not eating but whacking the lures. Final day tmrw and Still a whole lot of money on the table 💵 . Hoping to finish off strong and dry one off tmrw, bring on day three !! The BMWC was won also today in Kona, bringing the cup back to big island. When it comes to XXL Blue Marlin you just don’t always win. Well, we had her on today (Fish not pictured here) on our quick 4 hour trip we battled one that was big enough to give us goose bumps. We survived the initial runs and fought her down and dirty for awhile before she eventually shook the hook and won her freedom. Tough luck but this is the game we play. On a positive note the boat is raising some good fish after our dry dock tweaks so…. on to the next big Julie. We still got a few days open in July, step up and encounter a kona sea monster. #benchmark #kona #hawaii@pelagicgear
