Our guests today after releasing a spear and a blue marlin wanted to harvest the next spearfish, clean it bag it herself and take home to eat & she did just that. Nice job Amanda and Matt. Enjoy the steaks ! #benchmark #kona#hawaii @pelagicgear #pelagicgloves @ Grander Marlin Sportfishing

Roughly 51 Blue Marlin over 500lbs have been caught in Kona from Jan To May 15, As of yesterday 51 blues between 500 lbs. and 800 lbs. have been caught in Kona since New Years “Of the 51 marlin, 10 were between 700-800-pounds, 19 were between 600-700-pounds, and 22 were between 500-600-pounds” stats from Jody at konatournaments.com. Shows just how good It’s been this spring, leading up to what should be a really really good big fish summer. I currently have Some tournament dates open for a chance to win some big money or just come down this summer and experience this epic big fish fishery, in what looks to be a stellar summer. Not a lot of places on earth can boast stats like this in just a 4 month period . Go check out konatournaments.com to see if there are any tournament dates you would like to book with us or jump on grandermarlin.com and book some days to fish with us this summer. We look forward to getting you on the fish of a lifetime. #kona #hawaii #benchmark @pelagicgear #pelagichawaii#pelagicworldwide #bluemarlin #sportfishing #37merritt #konatournaments#biggamefishing @elitetacklegroup #dredges 📸 @jayblesphotoKona Fishing

Kona Fishing Report

I’m getting feed back about if it’s safe to come to kona with the volcano erupting or if it’s affecting the fishing. The volcano that is erupting is very far away, on the other side of the island. this is having no effect at all on us in kona and serves no threat to us at all! It’s eruptions are isolated to that area shown in photo. The only thing I can see any difference is more afternoon vog and haze (makes for some epic sunsets ) as per the fishing, it’s not effecting it and don’t see how it could. In fact the Fishing is shaping up to produce what could be an epic summer, way more around right now then last year this time so get down here, Kona’s safe ! On another note do keep the people down in that zone in your prayers, I believe most those homes are uninsured due to building on a active lava field, so many of these people will be completely homeless. Sad stuff. @ Ring of Fire
