Day 2 of the Big Island Marlin Tournament. slow fishing with just 3 tags for the fleet. We got lucky late in the afternoon and hooked a nice one. Looked every bit of 600 lbs. We had @viciouscyclefishing hammering on the fish in the @seamount_fishing harness and got her on leader pretty quick while she was still extremely green. She was stubborn and angry and Joe Had to dump the leader before a gaff shot was possible, then just before our second attempt we pulled hook 6 feet from the leader . I’ve said it once I’ll say it again, Marlin fishing ain’t fair. On a positive note we have seen a few decent fish and the tournaments still pretty open going into day three with us tied for second and the leading boat only one tag up. Just need some luck to seal the deal tmrw. #benchmark#kona #bluemarlin #biggamefishing @pelagicgear @seamount_fishing #morecushionforthepushin
Day one of the Big Island Marlin Tournament. Marlin fishing was slow but we lucked into this one late in the day. Since there has been no fish weighed she could have been worth some big $ but We looked at her for awhile boat side and damn she looked very close to the 400, we just felt she was just a tad short and despite having the girth of a much larger fish we still all agreed she would have been just a hair under the minimum weight so we made the tough but I believe right decision to put a tag in her and release & get on the points board with one tag for day 1. We are Hoping for her big sister tmrw. The Leading boat has 2 tags & there are 2 more days to go so it’s still open. Good luck everyone. ( that’s a snooter in the picture not a gaff ) congrats to Ken Geer catching his first Marlin, was a really great day getting to see @viciouscyclefishing and his dad get to enjoy kens first marlin together, what a cool moment #benchmark #kona #hawaii #bluemarlin@pelagicgear #pelagicworldwide @seamount_fishing #harness#morecushionforthepushin
Not a lot in terms of Marlin action for us yesterday but got this Ahi as bycatch while on the hunt. It was Good to get back out on the rip after a bunch of days off. Hopefully there’s a big girl out there for us soon🤞#benchmark #kona #hawaii #ahi #yellow #yellowfintuna @pelagicgear #pelagicworldwide #pelagichawaii @seamount_fishing @fire_tailz #dredgestrips
1 for 2 on Blue Marlin and 1 for 2 on those Tuna fishes 🍣yesterday. We have today off but back at um after that. The currents look really good, hopefully this damn storm doesn’t mess everything up. Both our Marlin bites were really good aggressive ones, absolutely demolishing short corner & long corner baits. #benchmark #kona #hawaii #yellowfintuna#bluemarlin #sportfishing @pelagicgear #pelagicworldwide#pelagichawaii @fire_tailz #dredgestrips @seamount_fishing @ The Big Island of Hawaii
If your wondering why these tuna have been so hard to catch on lures the last few weeks. This is what they are eating. It’s crazy how many times you see them actively jumping and feeding right around the spread but they are just switched on to micro stuff.
